A visit from Irene cancelled shows last weekend

Monday, August 29th, 2011
Hurricane Irene in VA.

Hurricane Irene lands in VA 8/27/11

Wow! An earthquake and a hurricane all in one week. We had quite a week here in Virginia. On Tuesday, August 23rd around 2:30 pm we were in our office here in Richmond when suddenly it sounded and felt like a really BIG truck was rumbling by. Jim thought that someone was sandblasting the roof. It was neither. The shaking was the scariest part and lasted for 20 or 30 seconds, but it seemed like a lot longer. We got under the doorways in our office until it subsided and many others in the building ran outside. Nothing fell off the shelves, and we didn’t sustain any damage. Our house is also fine, and the hotel properties where we perform our shows escaped harm.

A few days later on Saturday, August 27th, hurricane Irene hits Virginia and shuts everything down. We canceled all of our shows and hunkered down with a few neighbors to watch the hurricane film noir, Key Largo. It’s a great movie with Bogart & Bacall, Edward G. Robinson and John Barrymore. Nothing like a theme movie to accompany the weather outside:) Fortunately, the storm passed by around 10 that night and everyone we know is safe and sound. We are one of the lucky ones to have power at home and at the office. Williamsburg should have power by Wednesday, and our three other locations – Arlington, Richmond and VA Beach are fully operational as of this writing.

We apologize for having to cancel our shows this last weekend, but the safety of our audiences is our top priority. I hope that everyone out there survived the storm with very little inconvenience and upheaval.

Mystery Dinner Playhouse is again open for business! If you had plans to come to our shows last weekend, and you paid in advance, please reschedule, or we’ll be happy to refund your tickets. We’ll honor all requests.
